How Gully teaches

Five ways of drawing the answer

Nothing here is a lecture read off a slide. Every subject has one shape that makes it stick, and each lesson is built around that shape first and the notes second.

Biology

Mind maps, not paragraphs

A whole chapter drawn as one branching picture, so revision the night before is looking at a map instead of re-reading a book.

History

Timelines that hold the dates

Events placed on a spine in order. Once a student can see the sequence, the dates stop being twenty unrelated numbers.

Geography

Venn diagrams for comparisons

Two things, what they share, what they do not. Most Geography questions that ask "compare" are answered from the middle of that circle.

Economics

Flowcharts for cause and effect

Sectors, credit, globalisation — drawn as arrows from one box to the next, so the chain can be rebuilt in the exam hall from memory.

Physics & Chemistry

Tough board problems, worked fully

The numericals students skip, solved on screen at full length — including the step that is usually left as "hence obviously".

Why it's free

One teacher, his family, and his old students

A. MuthuKumar teaches from Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu. The channel exists for one group of students in particular, and he says who in his own words:

Students, esp 'Namma Thamil Pasanga' who are economically poor to afford private education.

A. MuthuKumar — Teacher and founder

There is no company behind it and no one is paid. The Youtube channel is managed by myself and my team (mostly my own students, wife, sister and family) on a not for profit basis.

The teaching language is a deliberate choice, not a limitation: Most of the video lectures will be a mix of English with Tamil Explanations. The English stays simple because the exam is written in English and the thinking happens in Tamil.

Board exam toolkit

For the fortnight before the paper

Everything below is part of the lessons on the channel — worked through on video, in the same simple language as the rest. There is no separate paid pack, and nothing is gated.

  • Repeated board questions

The questions that keep coming back across past papers, collected per chapter and answered.

  • Answer keys

Worked answers alongside the questions, so a student can check themselves without waiting for a class.

  • Important one-mark questions

The one-markers that decide the difference between a pass and a distinction, run through at speed.

  • Mind-map revision

The chapter mind maps rebuilt on screen in the last lessons before the exam, ready to copy into a notebook.
